Frequently Asked Questions

What is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical counseling orients around the foundational truth that we live life coram Deo, before the face of God. In our suffering, we cry out to Him; in our sinning, we repent to Him; in our healing and transformation, we begin to reflect the radiance of Christ’s glory. Biblical counseling has at its core the belief that God has something to say to our life experiences, and that He is ever near us. The counselor is a vessel and tangible representative of Christ’s presence, love, and compassion for us.

“[Biblical Counseling is] the conversational and relational aspect of Christian ministry in an intensely personal, focused, biblical way. The Christian worldview we sing in a good, rich hymn is the same worldview that we counsel from.” - David Powlison

“Scripture gives me all things that pertain to life and godliness in Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:3). It confronts me and comforts me, both at the same time. Scripture itself directs me to people, to careful observations, and even to the study of creation to further grow in faith working through love (Gal 5:6).” - Ed Welch

How do I make the most out of counseling?

Counseling is a collaboration between counselor and counselee, meaning your input and active participation are extremely important. It may feel uncomfortable, new, or difficult to honestly express how you feel or what you are thinking, but this is integral to you getting the most out of each session. If an idea, interpretation, or method I am using is not helpful, voice it. If you have questions about our counseling relationship, ask. On my end, I will work to create a trusting, warm, safe space for you to share whatever it is on your heart.

Do you offer online counseling?

Yes. At this time, the majority of my counseling is held online using the Zoom platform.

What types of issues do you address?

I am especially interested in the areas of trauma, abuse, shame, belonging, cultural identity, and particular struggles that those serving in ministry and missions are facing. However, I am passionate about seeing the truth of God’s Word and God’s nearness infiltrate every type of struggle we may face in life. I counsel individuals navigating relational strain and estrangement, sexual brokenness, family dynamics, body image, motherhood, singleness, loneliness, anxiety, perfectionism, addiction, and depression.

What is your counseling and consulting rate?

My standard rate for one 50-minute counseling session, consultation, or consulting work is $120.

Is financial assistance available?

I encourage you to check in with your local church for funds that may be allocated for counseling needs. Family and friends may also wish to help support you in your counseling journey.

After you have checked the previous resources, there are a limited number of reduced rate counselees I can take on each term. Contact me for a scholarship application. You will also need to provide me with proof of income and demonstrated need.

Lastly, if you or your spouse have served in full-time ministry recently or are currently serving, you are eligible for a reduced rate. Please indicate this on your Intake Form.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance, but some of my counselees have been reimbursed a portion of their counseling costs through their insurance’s out-of-network provider coverage. Contact your insurance provider about this. In addition, check whether your HSA could provide coverage.

Do you work with people who are not Christian?

Yes. Though I am explicitly Christian in my worldview and training, I have worked with counselees with other religious backgrounds (or who hold to no religion). We will work together to clarify counseling goals.

How long will I be in counseling?

The length of counseling and frequency of sessions depend on your counseling goals and needs. We will work together to determine what is most helpful for you.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Simply fill out the Intake Form (below) and I will get in touch with you.

What if I cannot make my appointment?

Send me an email at rona.counseling@gmail. com and we can reschedule. If I am not notified at least 24 hours in advance of our scheduled meeting time of any cancellations, you will be charged in full for your session.
